Lattice Multiplication anyone?

Hello again,

As I mentioned in earlier posts, I have a child that will be starting High School next year, so this year we have been using a few of The teaching Company videos. We were using The Basic Math series for review and I just have to tell you about a cool concept that I saw while reviewing Math with my children. Have any of you ever heard of Lattice Multiplication? I really wish someone would have taught me how to do long multiplication using this technique! Check it out:

Very cool right? Well if you have a child who is struggling with long multiplication, try to teach them using this method :-)

It's been a long time, so what's been going on?

Hi all, I can't believe how long it has been since I last posted!!! Please forgive! This year has been so crazy busy, the time just got away from me. Ok, first let me catch you up on what's been going on with me and then I'll share my free resource with you.

Let's see, I decided to join a coop this year. The coop meets twice a week and you can choose to have your children take most of their core courses with them, or you can choose individual classes (very nice). I decided to sign the children up for 3 classes and they have been enjoying the experience and making wonderful friendships with the children in the group.

I am teaching two science classes: Anatomy and Astronomy. My Anatomy class is for high school and gifted middle school students. It focuses on the major body systems and will end with a unit study of forensic science. We are using the Apologia Exploring Creation through Astronomy textbook for the Astronomy class and really having a great time with it. Did I mention how much I love Apologia Science books? Love it!

I have also been working on writing a book and it is going very slowly, but I'm hoping to have it finished by December of this year. So....what is everyone up to? Any great homeschooling stories to share? Please let me know what you are doing for school this year.

Now, my resource of the day: Free History DVD from the history channel!!!!
